PROGRAM DIRECTOR POSITION

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba invites applications
for the position of Program Director of the Physician Assistant Education
Program (PAEP). This contingent appointment is for a three year term and
may be renewable. In collaboration with the Offices of the Dean and
Medical Education, the Director will be expected to develop, promote and
maintain a comprehensive Educational program which will lead its graduates
to complete a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies degree. This
program will continue to advance existing Faculty initiatives to develop
and sustain its efforts in Physician Assistant education. Position Number

The Director of the program will be a Clinician and have significant
academic and professional experience as a successful clinician educator
and education leader.
The successful candidate should hold an M.D or Ph.D. degree. Salary
and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
An academic appointment will be made available within the Faculty.
Skill in examining and developing operations and procedures, formulating
policy, and developing and implementing new curricular strategies and procedures
at Faculty, University and National levels are expected for this position.
The successful candidate will be expected to engage in clinical or educational
research. This full-time position will have 0.8 EFT dedicated to
academic and administrative duties and 0.2 EFT to clinical duties.
The successful candidate will be expected to work directly with the
Office of Medical Education. Significant collaboration with the Faculty
of Graduate Studies will be required. Start date for the position will
be May 1, 2008 or as soon thereafter as possible.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The incumbent for this position will become a member of the Medico-legal
Investigative team. He/she will conduct death investigations that result
form criminal violence, suicide, mechanical, environmental or industrial
accidents, deaths in correctional facilities, sudden deaths unattended
by a physician and any deaths that occur in suspicious or unusual manner.
Selected candidates will write reports, maintain statistical records and
maintain contact with medical doctors in connection with possible cases,
follow-up on behalf of Medical Examiners in connection to researching autopsy
cases, etc.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. A New York State license as a Physician Assistant with current Registration
Certificates issued by New York State; plus either:
a) Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commissioner
on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and two years of full-time
satisfactory experience as a registered Physician Assistant; OR
b) Four years of experience as a registered Physician Assistant.
Special Note:
Possession of an advanced degree in a health
related field, or acceptable health related work experience prior to physician
assistant education, may be substituted for up to six months of experience
as a registered Physician Assistant.

2. A current New York State license to practice as a Registered Professional
Nurse, plus four years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Registered
Nurse Practitioner.
A valid New York City Driver’s License is required. The license,
registration and certification must be maintained for the duration of the
employment.
